The 1 year mark.

January 19th.

My mom went to see God last year today. I can't believe its been a year, and I can't believe the things Kellen and I have done. I got to go to India and spread my mums ash's, we moved out of my house (which was hard.. what do you do with all the yearbook and keepsakes?! thank goodness my brother moved in and I got to keep some stuff in the attic.) We went to visit Kellens family, who embraced me as their own and who I'm so grateful to have. When Jesus gives us another family, I now know why. And now we are in Portland. I'm happy. We are happy. We have a cute house, and jobs, and Weeno is getting there.

But my sister sent me a text today, she said "the idea of a lifetime without her still seems unbearable." And my heart breaks, because its only been a year. To be honest, I'm scared, and don't understand how to do life without her. I'm not sure how to have kids, how to raise them, how to go through the hard times in my life, and happy times. There's a hole, a void, a space that is begging to be filled.

I'm grateful for the mom I did have, she was incredible, and I'm happy I had her for as long as I did. She was great person, and a great mother. I know I'm not the only person who's had loss in their family, and I hope I don't sound like that. I appreciate all of the comments, the words and the love that is coming through to me and my family today.

Without you, without my husband, without my friends, and certainly without God I would be a wreck, all day, every day. But I'm not. Its hard to imagine life without her, and scary to.. but she wouldn't want me to stop..

So with this. Its a new year, and I will make her proud of me.
I will be grateful.
I will do my best to make my life great and do good things.
I'll do my best not to be selfish, and put others needs ahead of mine.

And with Weeno, we have a lot of new things ahead. A new branding is on the way. Which means, this blog will no longer be, and a new website.... a new beginning. I'm hoping it will embrace me as much as I've embraced it.

So here's to learning, and being, and making the best of the worst..

Mum. I love you & I miss you till my body aches... but I will make you proud of me.

In 2011..

I turned 25.

My mum passed away a few weeks later.

I went to India... I spread my mums ash's.

I felt the love and support around me.

We had a large estate sale, and I packed up my things.

Got a pup. Flinty.

We left for Wisconsin.

I got to know the family I gained through marriage.

We got to go to Canada.

First trip to New York.

Worked through stuff in my marriage.

Strived after God.. and still am.

Went home for a month.

Felt like a real live photographer.

Moved to Portland.

Nested.

Getting mentally prepared to start over.

In 2012.

I turn 26!

We are re-branding!

EXCITING!

Wondering if we will ever make it as wedding photographers.

Struggling with career choices.

Trusting God with our life choices.

Loving being married.

& Striving for.

Getting published.

Becoming photographers in the North West.

Quitting our "normal" jobs.

Its been an interesting couple of years. Kellen and I put our lives on hold to take care of my mum. And I wish I could personally thank each person who prayed for us and my family. We are so grateful. But, now Kellen and I are in Portland, and started our lives together. Finally! This year we are re-branding (I can't wait to reveal it to you!) and I'm finally putting our photography out there. I have to be honest with you all, some days I feel like a photographer, and then I look at all the amazing photographers out there and wonder if I'll make it. So for 2012 we will do our best. I will do what I feel God is asking of me, and I will take each day for what it is. So here's to 2012 and new beginnings!

the biggest party ever!

In the month of December I get so excited for the Christmas season. I love getting a christmas tree, decorating it with all the sentimental ornaments, listening to the christmas songs, and finding gifts for the ones I love. AND! of course I love getting Christmas cards. They are so exciting.. always a highlight of the month.

This year Kellen and I stayed in Portland... Since we just got here, and got jobs it was nearly impossible to leave. So we made the best of it. We had gifts mailed to us, mailed gifts to them, and decorated. And for this year we get to enjoy each other, and a quite Christmas. We got up at 5 AM this morning (We were really excited!) and opened the few presents under the tree and thought of our families in California and Wisconsin. We then had some eggs benedict (because we've made that our Christmas tradition.) We've also "Face Time"ed with some, and hopefully more tonight. I love technology!

But as this day goes by I keep pinching myself not to forget the real reason for Christmas. Its Jesus' birthday.. the day my savior was born. He was born for me. for kellen. for our families. and for everyone on this earth. I am grateful. And he is the best present of them all. This afternoon after our thanks to God, I thought of my mum and wished she was here. This is our first Christmas without her... and Kellen reminded me that this is her first Christmas with Jesus! And that she is in heaven celebrating the biggest celebration with her family. It was great reminder to not be selfish in this time, but be thankful.

So for that I'm thankful. I'm thankful that Jesus was born today, and that my mum gets to celebrate and be at his birthday party! I bet its the best of them all!

A Crafty Christmas

A Perlberg Crafty Christmas & some other stuff...

Welp My favorite time of the year is here! I am so excited to have our own place where we can do what we like to do, and decorate the way we love to decorate. I am in love & obsessed with Pinterest (much to Kellens dismay) and got plenty of ideas for this year! We made some epic yarn balls. Small ones for the tree, a medium for the top of the tree, and big ones for our chandler! I'm also obsessed with pallets. They turn into such random things, and the wood is so great! We went to a restore and got a few. Kellen turned a few into some shelves. AWESOME! And we have my grandma and grandpa's wedding photos displayed in them. Plus an orchid in honor of my mum. We also have lots of owls, and cameras! Most have all been given to me. I love them!!

But my most favorite thing in our house, is our mantle! Kellen just whipped out that wood (made from pallets) extension for the mantle, and I printed on some old pages to make a "French" Christmas banner. I'm in love.

The Lawrence Wedding

On an unusually warm day in California this October, we went to join Brian and Allison on their special day! They were married outside at the Country Club in Hanford. Their little boy, AJ got to join in on the hoopla as well. He was amazing and oh so adorable.

Since the wedding was later in the day, we got to do a first look! Which is my favorite moment of the day... its the most emotional and most exciting. We went to a beautiful house with some huge trees and an amazing pond. Their wedding was filled with friends, family and fun!

Thanks Allison and Brian for letting us be there on your day. It was beautiful!!

Lucky Strike

We have finally made it to Portland; and we are SO happy to be here! We've been here two weeks today and we are loving it. It's so beautiful here, with the trees, the rain, and all the colors. Being from Hanford there is not really a real fall. I was so excited that I knew I had to shoot in the beauty.

My friends Katie and Aaron live here. Remember when we shot their wedding a little over a year ago? Well, for their one year we decided we needed to do a shoot. I'm in love with the "Donald & Betty Draper"/Mad Men style at the moment, and they showed up dressed to impressed! The light was amazing, the weather had just the perfect nip in it and these two made my jobs so easy.

Hopefully we will get more love here in Portland! And if not, you'll being seeing a lot of these two, our landlords, and some friends!

Pine Flat Engagement

In high school I worked at this sweet coffee shop in Hanford. It was possibly the only cool thing in the area, and I got to work there! A few years later, this Ashley, who now we refer to as Ashley #2 (i'm number #1, cause I was there first) came in to work. We hit it off at the beginning. We went through 3 or 4 years of working together, hanging out, and going through boys. Well, not so much me, but her. She was going to college to get her kinesiology degree, and eventually got a better job at a school.

We kind of lost touch for a year or two, and then I found out she was engaged! I was beyond excited for her... and even more excited when she asked us to shoot her wedding. Matt was sweet, and kind, and he was funny! He wasn't sure about having his pictures taken, but he rocked it. Ashley talked him through the whole thing. It was great to see the love between these two, and I'm excited to see them get married in June!

OH! We went to Pine Flats for this shoot! It was a perfect day, not to hot and the lighting couldn't have gotten any better! They have a houseboat here and spend a lot of their free time up here enjoying the sun and the water. It was a dreamy spot! If your in the central valley, try to make it up there. It's beautiful!

My alarm went off at 5.30 AM. You see, that is REALLY early for this girl. Usually I'm going to bed around 2.... and getting up a lot later then 5.30. But this morning I jumped outa bed, grabbed my camera, put a scarf on, and drove over to this lovely couples house.....

We opened the boxed up dress, zipped it up, and went to explore the morning dew! We found some awesome mustard flowers, a green chair that she had found at a rummage sale, and Jake brought us some much needed coffee. We shot for an hour, and it was so much fun. At the end of the day the shoot seemed like a dream.. it was worth getting up before the sun!

Meet Mitch & Chelsea..

They are such a GREAT couple! Last year we shot Chelsea's brothers wedding in Three Hills, which was incredible as well... But! this shoot, this was special. They got married 2 years ago, and weren't exactly happy with the time they had to shoot. So, we flew up to the wonderful land of kanooks and moose and took their photos. The places they took us were all places they had history. First her grandpa's house, where there was wheat and silos, then he pulled out an old ford model T that he restored himself! After, we went to Mitch's parents barn. It was the perfect red barn color, and everything about it was amazing. Next we went to the badlands (where the dinosaur bones were found!) and took photos near the river. THEN CHELSEA GOT INTO THE RIVER!!!!! IN HER DRESS!

Thanks so much Mitch and & Chelsea, you two were seriously one of the funniest couples we have gotten to shoot, and we feel so blessed that you choose us to do your photos! I hope you love them!

The Iowa Couple.

About a month ago we went to Iowa to do an engagement shoot for this couple, Danny & Nel, and they were a dream to photograph then. A couple weeks ago, we got to go back down to Iowa and shoot their beautiful wedding.

When we did their engagement shoot, we got to hang out with them for the afternoon. It was amazing, we go to hear how they met, how they started dating, and get to know them as people. I don't think two people belong together more then these two. They truly have a heart after God, and are an amazing couple.

We got to do a first look, although it rained, and got to walk downtown Iowa City. We also were lucky enough to have my good friend Chelsea (Danny's sister in law) come and shoot with us. So thanks Chels! I asked Nel a few questions about her wedding day, and here's what she said..

1. What was your favorite/most memorable part of the day?
Definitely the ceremony. We put a lot of time in to making the ceremony meaningful and personal to us. the most meaningful part for us was when we sang the song "Center" because the words are so moving! we both cried most during that song, (but we're music people so that makes sense:) Another highlight for us was seeing all of our relatives and friends from out of town! It was a blast! And I must mention the photo booth....it was HILARIOUS to see pictures of our family in that thing!

2. What was you're favorite detail?

My favorite detail was the centerpieces- they were like my babies! I spent wayyy too much time on them, but they had old family wedding pictures in them, so it was creative and meaningful! I had lots of fun making them!

3. Would you change anything?

Nothing I can think of to change, except the weather during our first look was crazy!! which made it distracting and hard to focus on the moment, but I cant really change the weather! Everything else was totally AWESOME!

4. Any advice for future brides for their wedding planning?
Advice: Dont get so overly obsessed with the planning, it totally ruins the fun and makes you loose sight of what this really is- a celebration of your MARRIAGE! Take time while you're engaged to learn how to communicate, talk about stuff, and dont let the wedding make you a lunatic! Things may not go as planned but at the end of the day you will walk down that aisle and be married and thats the important part! Get excited for that! ...and dont let anyone tell you it takes a billion years to plan a great wedding, we were only engaged for 4 months and our wedding ROCKED! :)

.... when I had my senior pictures done they were cool, and I looked good. But they weren't. oh gosh, they were HORRENDOUS. So I'm trying to make up for it by taking some stellar ones of other people.

Cliff & Whitney
New Jersey

Cliff and I were in Hawaii together, then in the Suisse. He is a creative genius. Everything he touches is gold. Whitney, she and I always just heard about each other, and she... she's the one who stole his heart!

I was beyond honored when these two asked Kellen and I to shoot their wedding. It was to be in Ringwood, New Jersey at Cliffs parents house. As soon as I saw their letterpress invites (Clliff & Whitney designed them, Cliff printed them. His dad owns a print shop in Jersey.) I knew it was gonna be good! Kellen and I were so thrilled with this wedding... beyond! We got one of the best first looks ever, and one of the most true and loving ceremonies. It was beautiful. So thank you Cliff & Whitney for letting us share in on your day. It was beyond.

And just a fair heads up... there are about 80 photos! I couldn't do any less! I just couldn't.. so here's to the longest blog ever!

Meet Danny & Danielle.

They met in Iowa City, then Danny went off to Iraq. He returned a year later, and they reconnected, and here they are. Getting married in a few weeks. They are uber adorable, amazingling beautiful, and both so sweet.

Kellen and I went down to Iowa to meet these two love birds, and have a solid hang out time.. plus some photos. We had coffee, pizza, talk, and sweated a lot. It was well worth it, and I CANT WAIT for the 23rd! When we get to go back down and shoot their beautiful wedding. I truly LOVE my job!

Dirty Jersey

Say hello to Cliff & Whitney! I met Cliff when I was staffing the school of photography in hawaii, and then got to spend another 3 months with him the same year when he staffed my design school in the Suisse. Well, Cliff & Whitney found each other on a YWAM east coast tour, and then again in Suisse. Whitney moved from Memphis to north Jersey to pursue the relationship... and well now they are married!

Kellen and I had the honor of getting to go to Jersey for the weekend and hang out with these two wonderful people and their wonderful family. We had a GREAT time, got to get to know some amazing people, and capture true love.

i know! right? A blog? wow.. well we are settled down now for a bit, and I have an office, internet, and PS for all my blogging needs. so get ready! and for the first blog of the month!

Justin & Grace.

justin & grace brought us down to san diego to do their engagement session. it was possibly the best of the year. grace and i went to high school together, and were good friends during that time. but as time passed, and she and i graduated we lost touch. they contacted me about doing their e-session and i was boyond stoked.

we went, we conquered, we laughed (so hard!) had AMAZING pizza, had AMAZING beer, had amazing company, and took amazing photos. (I think, at least!) so I hope you love them as much as i do. because i do. a lot.

We woke up Saturday to a beautiful cloudy day. It was so cool, and so nice. I knew it was going to be a glorious day for a spring afternoon of mini-sessions. All of the sessions were people I knew, and so I was extra excited for this group!

There were kids, there were families, there were singles and even some puppies. It was awesome, and a great way to end my time here at the Hansen compound! Thanks everyone for coming out and joining me for my spring mini-sessions! And a special thanks goes out to my boy, who without him I couldn't have set any of the "stations" up, or done any of it.. I adore him!!

Just a Glimpse.

If you know me, you know that I tend to be on the "feminist" side of things. I think its because my mum raised me to be a strong woman, and I saw her do everything. She built, she cooked, she worked, she raised us kids, and remolded our house often. She was a WOMAN. I admire that. And Im grateful for the fact that she could do that.

When I heard about India, one of the first thing I heard was how the women were repressed. How they were looked down upon because they were the wrong sex. I heard a proverb that went something like this, "its better to be in hell then to have a baby girl." That to me says a lot. So, when I met these widows my heart went out to them. I think they were my favorite part of my trip (although thats so hard to tell!).

When widowed in India your family has no responsibility to you. That means, that your kids that you raised don't have to feed you, clothe you, or give you a place to live. You're worth nothing. So Care India has stepped in and started to feed the widows, and help them survive. Each month these widows get a good meal and $10 for the month. With that money they are able to buy one good meal a day and maybe buy a little medicine.

That day I took photos of the woman, and as a woman it was more then powerful. I did my job, and then hit. It hit that I was doing something that meant something. I was in the presence of some of the most amazing beautiful woman in the world. I told them how grateful I was for letting me take their photos, I told them how beautiful they were, and how I admired them. Of course, because we are women... we cried. It was beautiful. It was the moment when I knew I had my mum in me, and I am so grateful for that.

So heres to the widows..

Care India also helps men and women with disabilities. This guy has a makeshift wheel chair, and his daughter helps push him around. I feel in love with his eyes. I wish I could have spoke with him, because he seemed so amazing.

So. Here. We. Are.

In the dead of spring, with all this rain, and all this lush green stuff surrounding us. Its quite amazing this weather. Well, I think so.

Anyways, so all the rain has produced a plethora of weeds in my backyard, and green weeds. They are tall, and they are O so cool. Beyond the tall thicket of weeds and a bit to the right we seem to have gathered quite a junkyard for cars. A Car Graveyard. Its true. And its rusty. And its awesome.. Even beyond that we have a field, we have some old stuff, and a fence with some goats enclosed. And to make it a bit more cooler, we have a vintage beautiful green bench.

So its already March 31st, and I'm talking about this year.. Its a bit late.. I know! but we wanted to share with you whats going on..
With us.
With WeeNo Photography.
We are praying for BIG things.. and we hope you keep following us!

SO READ ON!

number one.
We raised our prices... dun.. dun.. dun!!
Somehow the things in the world have become more expensive. Gas. Cars. Computers. Cameras. Lens'. EVERYTHING! So must we.

number two.
Moving!!
Yup. Hanford, California just isn't the place for Kellen and I anymore. So, here are upcoming plans.

Wisconsin.. Yup! I'm doing it.. well just for the summer! We will be there for the summer.
June - August and will plan to leave in the beginning of September. Kellen deserves some much needed time with family, and I can't wait to really get to know them! For real get to know them.. not just like 2 weeks get to know them..

Then.. PORTLAND. (doesn't that word just look inviting?) Portland, we are praying, will be home for awhile. Awhile meaning, a couple of years or more?

Number Three.
Investing.
What does that even mean? Well, we have invested in quite a bit of GOOD camera stuff.. we invested in a brand new IMAC! And we are going to start doing some Bridal Shows.. In Portland. Its hard enough to get your name out there when you know people, then throw in a new city and the fact that you know 5 people.... Yup. We have come to this point. We are going to do some, and with that we want you to help! If we have shot your wedding, or family, or a couple shoot send me some kind words. Some words of encouragement for our future customers..

We are also wanting to invest more in photography, and our style. I have this vision in my head, and I feel like we are getting there. I feel like the last 5 weddings we have done, I have achieved everything I wanted. BUT. Now I want more. I want to see more, I want to shoot more, I want our style to be more developed.. We want to invest more in our packing. Our, website, our blog, and our beloved costumers!

So.. now you know my heart. I'm wondering what God has for us this year. Its so hard to leave an area where people hear my name, and know what I do for a living. Its scary to try to go to a big city and start a business. But, we are praying that God has something for us there. If you could join us and do the same.... we would GREATLY appreciate that.

I felt her.

The moment the Indian air touched my face and I breathed it into my lungs, my eyes swelled up with tears. It hit me, my mum was gone and I was in India to fulfill a promise that I had made to her 8 months back.

Its 19 days later, and I'm home with 1,700 photos and a feeling of closure.

India was great. It was more then great, it was incredible. It was emotional, and I was an emotional basket case half of the time. There were so many moments when I literally felt my mum at my side smiling with joy. I got to meet so many amazing people, with amazing hearts that were full on for God. I got to see the poorest of poor, and how they still smiled and were so thankful we came to see them. I got to experience India.

There are so many stories. So many memories I will have. I will always know that my mum would have loved it there, and I will always know that I left a little bit of my mum in India. I will always be grateful for such a great mother, and for an adventurous mother who taught me so much.

I blew her ash's off the roof at sunrise our last morning in the village into rice patties and a peanut field. It was one of the best moments I had. I got to see the well that was drilled in her memory. I got to see the clean water that was poured into the buckets, that gave nourishment to more then 100 families. I couldn't think of a better tribute for Jan LaMattino. She would want nothing else but to help families. I got to meet over 50 widows, women who's husbands had left them or died. Their families abandon them, and they didn't have money to eat or a place to live. I got to give them money, a hug, a smile, and take photos of their beautiful faces.

My trip was better then I could imagine. I got closer to God, got closure, and got heaps of photos. I am going to post more as time goes on, and tell you more stories in depth. I'll tell you more about the organization that I went and worked with, and how they treated me like royalty. How you can help, and how my mums legacy will live on thanks to everyone who loved her so much.

Its 8.13 AM on the 28th of February. I am trying to get some last minute work done, and trying to think if I have forgotten anything.

Today I'm going to India.

Today, I am going to go India for my mum.

Today, I am going to continue her legacy.

Today, I'm unbelievably calm.

I'm bursting at the seems to be able to see the photos I'm going to take. I'm doing this for me, for her, for all of you. Its a big deal, yet its not. Its so meant to be. Its so God. Its so her. Its so perfect.

Thank you for everything. Thank you for letting me take this trip, thanks for the prayers, the support, and the love. Right now, 42 minutes before I take this journey, I'm feeling all of it.

When I get an email asking if you can take a couples engagement photos, I get so pumped. Then, if they want them taken at the happiest place on earth! I will jump around my house in excitement and scream "I LOVE MY JOB!" This is precisely what happened when Heather asked us to shoot their engagement session at disneyland! I was the most pumped person ever. They also offered to let us bring some family to have a bit of a vacation. Trust me, we needed a holiday. So one of my bestest friends ever, Dominika, and my sister and her hubbs. Well while they played, we played! We went on big thunder mountain railroad first, then the teacups, then small world, the train, pirates! Everything. Also, such a big trip, because it was Kellens first time to Disneyland. (I told him that if he didn't like it, our marriage would be in trouble!) BUT HE LOVED IT! It was amazing, and so were Brian and Heather!

Thank you, you two. It was amazing. You treated us more then amazing with all of your hospitality. I hope your in awe over them. I know that I love love love them. Enjoy! And happy marriage!

Two and a half weeks ago today I lost my mum. Fourteen days ago, I wrote "mum. love. india."

I'm in awe and truly inspired. I feel blessed. I feel loved. I feel supported. I hope everyone who loses someone has as much support and love as I have had. I'm overwhelmed (in the best way possible!) by the people, by the cards, by the money that has come in in the past days. It makes everything okay. I have the best stories now, and the best memories. People have shared their hearts with me, and shared with me what my mum meant to them. So many good memories, which make up for the best smiles and laughs.

At her reception, or "celebration of life" on Saturday I got to meet so many of you, and got to hug you, and thank you. I felt so blessed, and after I walked away from it all on Saturday I strangely felt "fed". I think its such an odd, but amazing feeling to feel that after such a sad moment. Someone shared with me, that she walked away wanting to be a better person. IT WAS PERFECT! So exactly what my mum would have wanted. There were over 400 people at her celebration. They all loved her, and I'm grateful to everyone one of you who came and everyone who wished they could be there. I wish I could have hugged and talked to each and every one of you. I wish I could hear your story.

With that, so many read my blog. People who I didn't even realize knew about my blog, or were telling me that they wanted to help with India. In one week I had over $1000.00! WOW! Its truly a gift that you are giving me. I now have the funds for my trip, and whatever is left we have decided to drill a well in my mums name. We will give clean water for all the mums, for all the dads, brothers, sisters, and little kids to drink, to bathe in, to enjoy for the next however many years. THAT IS HUGE! Again, I can't tell you how thankful I am for all your support. I want you to know that I am going in the name of my mum, but I'm just the body that gets to go. Its all in us. We are all going, we are all helping. We are all doing good. We are being better people. My mum has brought so much good, in what could be the saddest days of my (our) life. Again, THANK YOU!

I had my first meeting today for India. There are a total of 4 of us. A Media team. We get to go and do what we were made for, and use the talent that God has given us and help the widowers, the orphans, and the organization. We leave the 28th of February and return the 12th of March. Its a quick trip, but its going to be incredible. We will be flying to Chennai, and going to a village 3 hours away. We will get to stay in the "girls home" and live a bit of their life. Get to enjoy a bit of what they enjoy, and endure a bit of what they endure. It will be emotional, it will be happy, it will be hard, but most of all it will be what God wants it to be.

India. God. Mum.
Mum. Love. India.

Its happening. I'm going, I'm using my talents. You helped. Again, thank You from the bottom of my heart. My mum is smiling, decorating, and dancing in Heaven. She is looking down on us, and is happy. I'm proud to call her my mum, and am thankful for the time I had with her. She taught me so much, and her legacy will still live on.

Where does one start?

When I was growing up it was my mum and me. We slept in the living room together, we ate together, we went on trips together, we dreamed together, and we we each others "persons". We could tell anything to each other, good or bad. She knew everything about me... and she knew me best. She would look at me and instantly she knew if something was wrong. She could give me that look, and I would just break down and cry. She was not only my mum but my best friend.

As long as I can remember my mum was always talking about traveling, and seeing cultures and seeing things. How important it was, and how when she lived in Germany for a year, and how she and my dad got to travel together and be nomads for awhile. She talked so fondly of it, and always encouraged me to follow my dreams no matter where they led me. So when I decided that at the end of High School I didn't want to go to college I wanted to go to Fiji, she supported me every step of the way. I applied for the school and got accepted. I then had to raise enough funds to pay for the trip. Somehow God make the money come in to the "T". The night before I left, I was laying in my bed and my mum on her couch and I was freaking out. I couldn't sleep, I told her I couldn't go. I was scared. You see, I hadn't EVER left home or my mum for more then a week. And to go for 6 months across the world, to a place where I had no idea what it was going to be like, and with people I had never met... I WAS SCARED. So, mum to the rescue. She talked me down, gave me all the legitimate reasons why I would have to go, and like a good mum would gave me a glass of wine! I sipped it up, and soon I was sleeping next to her.. We woke up the next morning, and I felt a bit better. A little uneasy, yet still so excited. We started our drive to LAX, we were about to Bakersfield and I got real quiet. The closer we got, the quieter I got. I even asked to stop and get a paper bag in case I might puke. (I never did though!) We got to the Bradley International Terminal, got my ticket and there they were... the separation of what was the come and what I knew. The escalators going up. I gave my mum the biggest hug ever, and started crying. I didn't want to leave her. I didn't want to leave what I knew. If you knew my mum, you know that she just smiled and told me, "Honey, I'm like a mamma bird. You have to leave the nest sometime. I'm pushing you out of the nest now.. God has a plan for you." So up I went on my mums encouraging words and started a whole new part of my life that I never imagined. She always said it was so hard to watch me go.. and that I had crocodile tears running down my face. Not once did she shed a tear in front of me... she was so strong.

I needed that. My mum did so good, and was so strong for me. She was jealous that I was exploring the world, and she wanted to come. So when I came home from Fiji and decided that in a few months I would join YWAM again in New Zealand she decided that she would join me. So off we went. We did NZ together for 3 weeks. We stayed in hostels, learned how to drive on the opposite side of the road and had an amazing adventure! It has got to be one of the best memories I have with her. She dropped me off at the ship, and was off. I think I cried then too..

Her dream though, has always been India. God has spoken to her about India since I was born I think. She has always dreamt of going, and has always thought that perhaps she had something there that would feed her soul. Koinonia, the church that she has been going to since the beginning was doing a trip to Cambodia. She prayed, and God said yes. So she went.. she loved it. BUT, it was not exactly the place she saw herself going to long term. A few years later they announced a trip to India. SHE WAS SO STOKED! She signed up, and told God that she wanted to go so bad. She started to pay for her trip, and then it started.

She was not feeling so good last November. She wasn't sure what it was, and since she didn't have insurance she was hesitant to go the doctor. She went to a clinic, and they couldn't diagnose her with anything. Finally, she saw a doctor who ordered a chest x-ray. There it was... A little round circle right in the middle of her left lung. The thing that would eventually take her life. They ordered a biopsy, and the day she had it the team for India left. I remember talking to her that day, she was just sad she wasn't going. The results came back. It was cancer.

We have gone through many doctors appointments, 3 doctors, so many medications, and so much heartache. She was the strongest person I have ever met. She was the bravest person I have ever seen on this earth. She wasn't scared of death, and she always let me cry on her shoulder when I was sad about her. A week before she died, I told her that she was so brave, she said "I'm trying to be brave for you." I cried. She has gone through hell this year, and I have been right by her side. I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. But mostly she made the good. In her last days, she wasn't able to talk, and she just looked into our eyes. We savored the moments we had with her. When she went, it was peaceful. I could feel it in my heart. God now has her, and she is in a much better place and she is happy. I can't imagine my life without her, and I don't want to.. I will do what I can to make my life something that she would be proud of. I hope I can be half of a women she was. She is my inspiration. She touched so many peoples lives and did so many good things. I loved her so much.

And everyday I'm reminded that God is there, and how good He really is. Today while meeting with the pastor that she went to Cambodia with I mentioned that I wanted to go to India to spread some of my mum's ashes. (I promised her I would.) He said he was going at the end of February to help make some promo videos for a organization there. He said I could go and take photos. My heart skipped a few beats. I looked at Kellen, and he smiled. I told him I would think about it. I came home, and started to really think about it. Its what my mum would have done. So two days after my mums has left this earth, we get to continue to live out her legacy. As I am sobbing while writing this, I'm so honoured that God would let Kellen and I do this. I decided that for my mum we will take a 10 day trip to the south of India with 1 or 2 other people. We will be doing Gods work, and I will be getting to do exactly what my mum wanted to do. We'll get to go and hang out with girls without mothers, and take care of babies, and get to show them love. Something my mum knew so much about. I get to use my skills, and get to take photos of all of them. We get to help in the name of Jan LaMattino. I feel so blessed, I feel so honoured, and I feel happy.

I need your help though. Tickets to India aren't exactly cheap. I need help financially.. My mums legacy needs help. Will you consider giving us money so we can go and help and take photos and show so many kids love and help get an organization up and going? No matter how much, it doesn't matter. Its what is meant to happen. It is in Gods timing. Its a blessing. Kellen and I get to go and do what my mum wanted to do. We have a pay pal account that you could add to, or perhaps you can send a check to our house. If this is tugging at you, please be willing to listen to God and his plans. Help us carry on my mums legacy.

If you do decide to donate money, we will come up with something to show you the work we did there, or something. We will start a mailing list so you can see what we did, how we did it, and the people we helped. I hope you don't see this as a beg for money, but more as helping and continuing a life that we lost. She can still live on, and she can still do so much as long as we listen.

Its been exactly one month since I've blogged.. We've got a lot to say, we've got a lot to share and we hope you had a wonderful holiday!!

We did some amazing family mini-sessions. It was held at Jack Stones Barn in Lemoore. We had different "stations" set up for each family to enjoy and had 1/2 hour sessions. Kellen and I wanted to something different, something exciting. I think we achieved our goal. We had almost a full day of families and almost got rained out. So thank you to each of the families that joined us for our mini-sessions! We love your support, and we hope that next year we can shoot even more families and do an even cooler shoot!

Then it was time for Christmas, and time to get a tree, and time to enjoy family. As some of you might know my mum has been battling cancer for a year in November. Its been a long journey of ups and downs, of good and bad. So for us to spend Christmas with her, especially since its the last Christmas I'll ever have with her was very important to Kellen and I. So, we stayed here. We decorated, we got a tree, we used all my mums amazing decorations that I loved so much as a kid and got s%%*t done! I have to say, after trying to decorate, I give it up to my mum. I always thought it was semi easy. NOPE! It was so difficult, things were broken, and there was so much stuff, and where to put this, and where to put that. She defiantly has an amazing gift! After our Christmas here with the family Kellen and I jetted off to Wisconsin for 10 whole days! We had yet another Christmas, enjoyed his family, enjoyed some snow and spend lots of time with family. I got to go ice fishing, experience a "real" up north adventure and new years and got to see an amazing friend in Madison.

After 10 days of eating constantly, we came back to California. To real life... I turned 25 on 8th! Its a big milestone for me. I always thought at 25 I'd feel and be so old. Although, I do feel like an adult I don't feel old. I still feel like me. Kellen and I got to spend the day together, he got me a tattoo! Yup! a tattoo!

and here we are. the 14th of January.

I woke up this morning to adult things like cleaning the house, making some tea, doing some dishes, and make sure my mum was okay. Its another day that we get to enjoy our family, possibly one of the last days I'll get to enjoy my sweet mothers amazing sky blue eyes. She is declining and declining quickly. Last night Kellen and I prayed for her, and not that God would heal her, but that God would give her so much peace, and so much love and so much joy. We thanked God that He has given me the best mum there ever was, and a mum that was perfect for me. So in the next month I hope you will forgive my absence, and my tardiness. I hope you understand. I ask that maybe you can say a little prayer. A little something... and give your mum a call, give your mum a kiss, and tell her how much you love her!

The Dana Powers House was a beautiful venue with lots and lots to look at it. They had these awesome pumpkins with these engravings in them, these old chandlers, and Holly added so many little details. Kellen and I immediately fell in love with everything. EVERYTHING! When I got Hollys inquiry about doing her wedding, I was thrilled. We met in high school, only it was just a year. In that year we defiantly connected, but didn't stay in touch. Then facebook happened. (oh facebook!) Anyways, the wedding date had already been booked, and in Canada! I had to sadly decline the wedding, and wish her luck on another photographer. Well, the amazing person that she is, she kept up with me, and the news with my mum. She would randomly email me with these amazingly encouraging emails and news about the wedding. The more I heard about the wedding, the more I realized how much I really wanted to shoot it. Then, in one of her emails she had mentioned she had changed the date! (excited much?! yes!) I tried to be discreet about it, but told her that she should hire me! After all I was free THAT Saturday. So, she did! We became a team... she came over we talked over details, she gave me her AMAZING invite, and I drooled, and declared it the BEST invite ever!

So on that Saturday, Kellen and I awoke to much rain and clouds. Drove the 2 hours to the coast in hopes that it wouldn't be the same there... it was. Then suddenly it cleared, there were blue skies, and big pouffy clouds, and the sun shined.. shone? it was beautiful! Kellen and I oo'd and aww'd over the barn, over the house, over the "anthro" style barn and decor. We couldn't get enough.

So in part one of this post you'll enjoy her amazing creative ceremony, the beautiful bridal party (who is probably one of my favorite ones, look at that setting!) and the reception. Enjoy, and be in anticipation of part two!!

First Looks, Orange Sapphires, and lots and lots o' Love

I convinced Kate and Aaron that having a first look is the best thing to do. There was no hesitation, they were on board! I love first looks. Why? because it makes for such AMAZING photos, the emotion. You can't fake that. Second, you can get all the photos done before the ceremony then when the ceremony comes you enjoy it, you hang out with family, then you get to party. No guests waiting, no trying to beat the light, and you get to enjoy the wedding that you so deservingly get to enjoy.

Anyways, they gave Kellen and I full creativity to do whatever we wanted. We went, we conquered, and they kicked ass. I hope you enjoy this couple as much as I enjoyed photographing them and their newly married love. I realize after each wedding, especially after a wedding where the bride and groom mean so much to me, that God has really given me the best job in the whole entire earth. I'm grateful that He has given me a gift and I get to share it with the world, and show it that God is creative and I get to show that! So thanks Kate & Aaron. I love and adore you... (This is a long post, and its only pt. 1)

Kate (or katie as I call her) and I have known each other since freshman year of high school. We have been best friends ever since, even through college, and growing up, moving, boys, and marriage. You know its a good relationship when your friendship last through all this and you love each more then the day before. So when Kate got a boyfriend we were all excited, but then when she was engaged to a boy who gave her a orange sapphire we knew that was it!

(sidenote - we are a member of the "browns". a group of 5 girls who have been friends since HS. Our motto.. " No boys, just girls. No girls, just us." yeah, I know. Its awesome! anyways, Kellen was the first official brown boy. It was a HUGE deal. the girls had to approve and he had to know what the browns meant to each other.... ANYWAYS!! Before Kate had even met Aaron, Kellen called that she would be married next.. now look! She is the 2nd brown to be married!)

When Aaron sent me an email asking to be a part of their engagement I FLIPPED OUT! After flipping out, yelling at Kellen in excitement, I realized that I would be shooting a wedding out of town that weekend. IT KILLED ME! So I decided that I would do other things instead... like make homemade invitations, help with picking out the flowers, help with the decor. Since I'm super into weddings these day. Anyways, Kate and I talked out the date and we knew that October 16th would be the day that she would be Mrs. Kate Schaffer.

The day was amazing. It was sunny, it wasn't to hot, it had blue skies and we were all in 7th heaven. I was able to choose to be IN the wedding or SHOOT the wedding, so of course I decided to photograph the wedding. It was a huge honour. We started out getting ready with the girls, screaming, dancing, and drinking a bit of champaign. Then Aaron and Kate had their first look, that brought us to an amazing intimate ceremony where they shared their hearts and love with each other. After that it was a HUGE party where we ate, drank, and danced.

They have been with me since the beginning, and we get to shoot a new family photo every year! The kids have gotten better and better, bigger and bigger, and so have the shoots! This year they included 2 more to their family, their wonderful whippets! Anyways, we went to a cotton field, and IT WAS AMAZING! Then, Kelty got this sweet old couch (which we are borrowing for our Family Mini-shoots!) and we went to a park! It was only us, and it was so good. Its been Awhile

WOW! Its been weeks since I've last blogged. Oops. I guess my life has overcome the blogging. We are keeping busy here in the LaMattino-Perlberg house!! We have a TON going on, with taking care of my mum, with WeeNo Photography, and with the holidays coming up its been aa mad house!! But alas, here I am tonight I'm listening to the new Arcade Fire Album, Suburbs and its inspiring me to work work work.... as is the cold weather we are experiencing.

I know I have blogged tons about the Canada wedding, but every time I go back to I just can't get enough, and more photos have become my favorite everyday. I honestly feel bad for this couple. I wouldn't be able to begin to choose which photos I want!! anyway. Bret has a restored Ford Galaxy that his grandpa gave him, and they had it as their "gettaway" car.... I had to do the whole pin-up girl on the top of the car! Marie rocked the bad word out of it, and here's the finished product! AMAZINGNESS!!!

Why make time for Bridal Portraits?

Everyone has their own view of what a wedding should be, and how it should go. A groom, a bride, a vendor, the parents, and of course the photographer. As the photographer my main goal is for the photos to go smoothly, for them to be FUN, and for us to get the best photos we can get that day! (its also why I get paid) Anyways. There are always a couple things I suggest to the bride and groom.

1. First Look Photos..

Its awesome, Its amazing, and its brilliant. It makes the day go by so much smoother, makes plenty of time for the bride and groom portraits! more on that in another blog though.

2. Family photos BEFORE the ceremony.

Why? Because after the ceremony it seems the people are done with taking the photos, and just want to talk, party, drink, and eat.. BEFORE! Everyone is looking nice, clean, happy, satisfied, and excited for the wedding. Plus, your guests don't have to wait for hours before eating. They will be appreciative of that.

3. Bridal Portraits.

Which is the reason for this post! Well, its your wedding day! Its one of just a few when the day is all about you, your love, and the only day that you can spend heaps of money on one dress. On top of that, you get your hair done, you get your makeup done, and you look AMAZING! You deserve a good at least half hour of time getting photographed by yourself. Because your the bride, you NEED good photos of just you, and you ARE gorgeous...

Marie and I met in Fiji 5 years ago. After Fiji I have to say, we didn't stay in that good of contact so I can honestly say that I was surprised and so HONORED to have her contact me to shoot her wedding. She, in fact, booked me before she was even "officially" engaged. And I'm so happy she did.

This wedding was in Alberta, the province in Canada. And if you know me well you know that I will do anything to get my happy butt to Canada! Especially shoot a gorgeous bride and groom. When we were driving to three hills, I wasn't sure where I was. Dirt roads, nothing in sight just the rolling hills of Alberta and bit of fog. When we arrived at the Hinkle house I was greeted by lots of happy and welcoming faces. Marie was having her makeup done, while drinking a cup of coffee and she was GLEEMING! Then her hair, then we got to do some epic bridal portraits. Please, if your ever wondering why its important to have a few minutes just to have photos of you, the bride, take a look at this slideshow! Seriously, she rocked it so hard, and I'm so happy to have done this for her.... Anyways, we get to the small little chapel, after driving 20 minutes on the dirt roads, they were wed with a smile on their face and a tear in the eye. It was quite beautiful.

Then my favorite part. We had an hour with the bride and groom. ALONE! We got to go to this old barn, that Bretts great grandfather built! Amazing. ALSO! Their gettaway car... A Galaxy! AMAZING! I went crazy, and had the time of my life. Kellen went crazy, and had the time of his life.

All this to say, this slideshow is a bit long, but its well worth it! Brett and Marie were an amazing couple to photograph and I feel so blessed that they would fly Kellen and I all the way up there to shoot their special day. It does make me feel so lucky...

This is part one. (because well we had a day after shoot and that would just make this blog WAY to long.)

Meet Paul and Emily. They have known each other since the age of 8, met on a debate team. Been friends ever since, dated, went to college, got married, and now they are back at college. Columbus State to be exact. They are young, motivated, and very untraditional. Everything I LOVE in a couple.

After being in Ohio for a grand total of 40 hours, meeting Paul and Emily's family and friends, meeting Paul and Emily I knew that I was going to fall in love with this wedding! The church was white. White! With windows, and old and amazing. The reception was "picnic" themed and was held at a park. It was like a English garden feel with the recycled vases and plates, and heaps of wild flowers! It was perfect, and although I don't know Paul and Emily, it was THEM!

So Congratulations Paul and Emily on your new found marriage, your new life together, and I hope your enjoyed your photos as much as we enjoyed photographing your wedding!

This weekend we got to be a part of an amazing wedding in Ohio. It was quick trip, but SO worth it! The couple was epic, the church was awesome, and the picnic wild flower rustic reception was just brilliant!

This was a very special wedding for a few different reasons.
1. Jaclyn is my VERY close friend. We have been friends since 6th grade. That means we have been friends for 12 years! I'm 24, thats half my life. and THATS A BIG DEAL!
2. I was IN the wedding!
which brings us to
3. It was Kellen's very first wedding shot solo.

It was the shortest ceremony ever, we got a first look, and got an hour of time to shoot just the two of them. It was a gorgeous day, it was a gorgeous wedding, and my amazing husband shot the ... bad word out of it! (i'm such a proud wife). I , of course, couldn't NOT take photos so I helped with the first look and did the family photos. Kellen really captured the two of them, the presence of the wedding, and the love between Morgan and Jaclyn. This is truly a wedding near and dear to my heart! Congratulations Morgan and Jaclyn!!! I love you both!
